Agent Orange: A Brief History
During the Vietnam War the American Military sprayed gallons of toxic chemicals all over Vietnam. These chemicals were distinguished by the different color label on the drums that they were stored in. Some examples were; Agent White, Agent Blue, Agent Purple, Agent Green, and the most used was Agent Orange (Veterans and Agent Orange, 1994). Agent Orange was composed equally of two chemicals known as 2,4,D (Dichlorophenxyacetic acid) and 2,4,5,T (Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid). During the Vietnam War these chemicals were mixed with Kerosene or Diesel fuel and the contaminant TCDD (Dioxin). Agent Orange was initially to be used to clean out the jungle areas ridding the enemies places to hide (Scott,2004). Today, many of these brave soldiers and their families are living lives of disease, illness, and poverty.
I am creating this website for my Health Communication class at Wright State University. I hope that this site becomes a helpful guide of information for Veterans of Vietnam affected by the chemical known as Agent Orange. With this page, I hope to raise more awareness of the situation, and keep helpful links updated for veterans and their families.
